Explorist

Explorist is a media studio that tells stories of people building a better future, working from the primary sources they left behind. Progress is not inevitable, it is built.

What we make

Books, charts, posters and archives, made out of the documents the builders wrote themselves: shareholder letters, company updates, launch reports, testimony, the pages nobody kept. We do not summarize them. We find them, put them in order, set them properly, and print them so they last longer than the websites they came from.

What we have finished

Sixty years of Warren Buffett's letters to Berkshire Hathaway shareholders, 1965 to 2024, in one hardcover of 968 pages, with the whole archive online alongside it.

SpaceX's first decade, 2002 to 2013, in the company's own updates: 428 pages, two hundred copies, printed once.

There will be more. We say so when one is finished, not before.

Why

Progress is not inevitable. It is built, by people, usually while something is going wrong. A decade of a company reads very differently when you have the week-by-week record instead of the summary: the three failures in a row, the money running out, the letter written anyway.

We think more people would try if they could see how a thing actually got made. That is the whole reason this studio exists.
